First we started with our news item: SnapChat is partnering with Square to launch SnapCash, a quick way to send money to others. VentureBeat says

Snapcash is initially only available to Snapchat users 18 years and up in the U.S., though it will presumably expand to other countries later. The only other requirement you need to fulfill is having a Visa or MasterCard debit card. After you enter your debit card number into Snapchat, the company says it is securely stored by Square, which handles the actual payment processing.

This is an interesting development. We’ll see where it goes.

On this episode, our discussion addressed two main broad topics: 1. What exactly is social listening and what does it encompass, and 2. How can small business use it to grow.

Evan spoke at length about the need for businesses to use social media listening tools to monitor their reputation through sentiment analysis, research competitors, conduct market research and dive deep into data about current and potential customers. Using proactive social listening doesn’t have to be very time-consuming or expensive: while some tools cost $50,000 a year and aren’t necessarily very good, Mention.com is a great way to inexpensively monitor your reputation by setting alerts etc. While this does not have as deep data like Radian6, but it does offer fairly robust information at a low price point. (Or you can just hire Evan’s company.)

We also discussed the future of the show. Basically for the rest of the year we will not be hosting live shows, but focusing on rebranding and relaunching our show. This will involve a series of brainstorming sessions with various professionals which we will share with you as podcasts and relaunch the show next year. We will still have the same philosophy of laughing and learning but in a much-needed rethink of how to take us to the next level.

See you LIVE in 2015!

Thanks again, Evan!

*and THANKS to all our listeners for tweeting along LIVE with hashtag #unscrambled!

Two great guests (and us) discussing the most important aspect of social media for business – Lead Generation. And that not only applies to finding and connecting with prospects, but connecting with and nurturing strategic partners and referral partners as well.

Thanks to our guests!

And of course we covered our weekly news story of people buying the wrong stock thinking that it was Twitter stock….ooops! And even though last weeks tip-of-the-week was “Don’t be a jerk,” this weeks is “Don’t be an idiot.” (or ‘don’t be stupid’, however you wish to say it 😉

Chris and David discuss effective methods of posting on social media, including speaking in your very own authentic voice. Chris shared various items that frustrate him when it comes to creating, posting and managing the social media posts for so many entities – his studio, radio station, as well as each individual show. It can become pretty confusing, right?

How do you decide what to post and where???
