Amber Osborne – CMO of Meshfire

She is an amazing guest, not just because of her wealth of knowledge and experience, but because she actually managed to endure two — count them TWO — appearances here!

We started today with a news item: that Sir Mix-a-Lot turned his seminal song Baby Got Back into a classical music piece. This segued into a conversation about how Amber actually knows Mister Mix-a-Lot (whose real name is Anthony) and how they had a barbecue with him a couple of days ago.

The conversation then turned into a discussion about celebrities on Twitter and how to engage with them. Amber’s advice is to treat celebrities like regular people and give them something valuable. Because of this approach, she is followed by megastars like Sir Mix-a-Lot himself as well as Joss Whedon. Very cool stuff.

When it comes to using Twitter she also suggested that you bundle different Twitter followers into lists which allows you to keep track of those people. So if you attend a trade show you can put attendees into that list and stay in touch. She also recommended that bands use Twitter to help other bands which, in the long run, will help them as well.

Amber Osborne - CMO of Meshfire

Amber Osborne – CMO of Meshfire

This week on Social Media Unscrambled we had an excellent conversation about the power and potential of using Meshfire to manage Twitter more effectively with CMO Amber Osborne.

First we started the episode with our the news item: Twitter is changing its layout of profiles by making the “cover” picture bigger, etc. Amber agreed with David that the new layout will be less confusing and actually look more like Facebook.

Meshfire

Then we really dug into how Meshfire can help you and your brand manage multiple Twitter profiles simultaneously. Meshfire also has super-efficient functionality for team collaboration (CollaboTwation? Twitoration?) by allowing the integration of numerous profiles into their platform and distributing work among team members.

Amber elucidated on why she thinks Twitter is such an incredibly powerful platform and explained how, before joining Meshfire, she previously helped several companies amp up their social media presence and experience significant business growth. And of course we had to address the fact that she had blue hair for a couple years. …cool 😉

We also reminisced about the olden days of social media — a whopping six years ago — and how Amber and David got onto social media in the first place. It was a walk down memory lane… Chris and Amber also reflected on how they met at New Media Expo which all started with a strange tweet from none other than our good friend Dino Dogan

Finally we shared the Tip of the Week: David found an article suggesting that parents should talk to their kids about the power and potential of social media to hurt them in the long-run with regards to their reputation, employment opportunities, etc. We posted that link on our Facebook page!

Some Pearls and Opinions from the Expert Speakers at New Media Expo – Ep.27

New Media Expo was awesome! Jan. 4-6th, 2014 in Las Vegas, NV. As a content creator and business owner, Chris had fun and learned a ton. Listen as he shares some of the highlights with co-host David.

NMX-1

Of course Chris met up with friend of the show, Dino Dogan, and also attended Dino’s eye-opening presentation on Crowdsourcing Influence. Triberr.com is totally pushing the envelope, actually.

Scott Stratten (of UnMarketing) gave the funniest and most helpful keynote! He encouraged us to do things worth talking about, as well as to focus on what matters – and the nuances of your logo don’t really matter compared to what’s really important to your business or brand. David commented that your “brand” is nothing more than your promise, and your social media can only be as good as your brand.

NMX-3

Chase Reeves (of fizzle.co) was part of a helpful presentation about the structure of producing a podcast show – bits, clocks, working with producers, sound clips, etc.

We discussed Marshall Sylver, hypnotist and platinum sponsor of NMX, too.

It may be obvious, but Chris liked the simple idea of talking to your audience, getting to know them and finding out what they actually NEED. Then find a way to give it to them! Ha!

NMX-2

The most high-level keynote was the impressive panel of Noah Shanok (Stitcher), Norman Pattiz (Podcast One), and Leo Laporte (TWiT). They discussed the future of podcasting, which seems bright since Norm, who started Westwood One 30 years ago, recently launched Podcast One which promotes a stable of popular podcasts and boasts “Madison Avenue” advertisers. And Stitcher is already in the dashboard radios of some Ford, GM, BMW, some Mercedes automobiles, and there will be over 4 million stitcher enabled cars in 2014!

Chris had the privilege of meeting Chris Brogan (Publisher of Owner Magazine, New York Times Bestselling author, and more) and was ecstatic that Chris is willing to be a future guest of this show!!!

NMX-4

Chris was also honored to meet, in person, these tremendously inspiring individuals:

And many more impressive individuals who we’ll discuss soon 😉

You know any of these folks??
