This week we had two news items: Mark Zuckerberg donated $25 million to fight ebola. Good for him! Second, we learned that marketers are using your selfies to sell stuff back to yourself. Good times!
At its core, LeadPages provides marketing software to help marketers convert web visitors into qualified leads. This is done by helping users instantly deploy landing pages for the purpose of capturing email addresses, registering for webinars and more. This gives businesses the chance to do effective marketing without having to hire people.
Tim says that the most powerful marketing channel is email marketing. David said he hasn’t done a good job of monetizing his weekly news round-up, but Tim said it functions well for thought-leadership purposes. If you are trying to monetize, however, building an email list of potential customers is very important.
Tim correctly says that the biggest problem with social media is that you don’t own it, whereas you own your website and email lists. And, if you are using social media instead of your own content then you are abiding by their rules, not yours.
Chris then circled back and asked what a landing page is. Tim said a landing page is a page with one single call-to-action, such as an opt-in page designed to collect information.
Tim then talked about LeadBoxes, which allow you to put a two-step opt-in form for your site. Basically instead of driving people to another landing page, clicking a link would cause a simple opt-in box to appear. This functions really well in a blog post, for example, where you could have a call-to-action within another post. Why has this method increased opt-ins 30% than regular landing page? Because…
- A two-step form appears to be more of a giving page, making people want to say yes to giving emails.
- Getting people to make a decision is critical. Clicking a form can make you (a) sign-up or (b) not sign-up. Giving a clear choice makes people decide to connect with you.
- Getting people onto the “yes ladder.” Getting people to say Yes over and over makes them more likely to buy/click/say Yes again.
